Butter London Thames Nail Lacquer
Butter London Thames Nail Lacquer

Butter London Thames Nail Lacquer

Butter London Thames Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft, blue-green stunner with just a tiny undercurrent of gold.” It’s a rich, luxurious green-teal with subtle shimmer. I didn’t get a lot of gold shimmer, as it seemed more white/silver to me (even in bright light). I was able to achieve opaque color in two coats. The formula was easy to work with, because it wasn’t too thick or thin, flowed evenly across the nail, and didn’t streak. There were a few brush strokes in the resulting look, but they were very subtle.  I typically get a week of wear with Butter London’s formula with a proper base and top coat.

The color reminded me of the shimmer in MAC Jade Dragon (which has a very inky green-tinged black base). Duri Paparazzi is the closest dupe I found from my past swatches, but it is much greener (not really a teal at all).

Thames

If you love jewel-toned nail colors, Thames is a really lovely shade that intertwines blue and green to create teal, but then sometimes it leans green, sometimes it leans blue.

Product & Review FAQ

Where can I purchase a Thames? How much is it?

Is it limited edition?

No.

Any dupes?

The color reminded me of the shimmer in MAC Jade Dragon (which has a very inky green-tinged black base). Duri Paparazzi is the closest dupe I found from my past swatches, but it is much greener (not really a teal at all).

I love this kind of shade. :)

I have a polish from H&M that’s fairly similar (although stains my nails like crazy!) GOSH Ocean is slightly bluer than this I think.

  2. This reminds me of NYX Jungle! (Which I love)
Not a dupe at all, just reminiscant in terms of colour and finish.

  3. Musebeliever

Thank you for testing this !!!
I’ve been searching for swatches for ages.
I read that some people felt that it wasn’t opaque enough but the colour is so beautiful that it will be my next buy all the same. *o*

  4. Oh my gosh, this color is stunning! I think I may have some polishes similar, but I still can’t help but want this one too

  5. Élise

That has got to be the most beautiful jewel-toned blue-green polish I’ve ever seen!!

  6. This is a lovely color. Despite being a teal fan, I don’t think I have ever owned a shade quite like this one!

  7. Rosie

WOW I so love this color!!!! I don’t know if I could spend that much on a naili polish :( It’s so beautiful though! Since it’s not limited maybe sometime in the future I’ll splurge on this awesome color.

  8. That is a stunning color! It went straight to my wish list!

  9. leinti nti

oh it is fabulous. better than the chanel peridot one that I have been lemming.

  10. Julia

I think this is a dupe for Illamasqua Veridian.

  11. Ula

    AMAZING color!!

  12. Paula

OPI for sephora also has a similar color called Mermaid to Order

  13. Ashley

This looks like a Sephora by OPI shade. It actually looks identical to it; I think it’s called Mermaid? Or it might be Skinny Jeans. I really can’t remember. But it looks pretty.

I keep buying teal shades like this that show a hint of purple flash in the bottle, but it never shows up on the nail. Based on the description I know this particular shade is not supposed to have any purple, but if it did, I’d be all over it.

  15. It’s really really beautiful!

Just bought a couple of Butter nail polishes the other day and I hate the brush and handle. It is so small and stubby and makes it so hard to get decent coats. So disappointing.

  17. Alicja

This color is very pretty :)) althoug the name… Thames? Really? Thames is much more brownish ;)

  18. Gorgeous shade but the London Thames looks nothing like it – it looks more like milky tea :-)

  19. So pretty! This reminds me a little bit of Essie’s Trophy Wife, but this is a tad greener.

  20. meme

This is a real beauty! I think this one is going on my wish list at drugstore.com for next order I put in there on the Beauty.com side.

  21. Ann

Thanks. I am new to these polishes. Have Artful Dodger;wanted a green that shimmered and was a bit more dramatic. This is it. Appreciate you showing pics.

  22. Erica

This color looks gorgeous in the bottle, but I wish it was a little darker on the nails. Fortunately someone mentioned Viridian and I checked that out. Think I’ll be picking that one up instead! Both gorgeous though

  23. Luisafer

OMG!!!! I LOVE this!!! can´t wait to get it, love this color!!!! looks so pretty!!! excited and happy :O)

  24. Butter London is now available at Ulta!

  25. Amanda

Love the teal if it had a shimmer of gold it would look like butterfly wings, (think gold sheen in Chanel pearl drop!)

  26. Via

This is like the same amazing shade as a few drug store polishes I own, except I like mine better because of the perfectly sparkly but subtle glitter. I bet this formula is better, but I still think even the shitty brand at Rite Aid “Jessie’s Girl” has a much better (albeit different). I like that this isn’t streaky though! This color is always beautiful… reminds me of mermaids!

  27. 53

    is that peacock green?

  28. Sexy Sadie

wow, Gosh has a similar shade. I am going to buy it now.

  29. Jessica

I’m so happy this is such a dupe-able shade i have nail polishes in my collection that are the same color!

  30. Ivette

this kind of reminds me of Trophy Wife by Essie!

  31. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Lara Lara

This is a lot like Revlon’s Ocean Breeze which is about $10 cheaper. :P Beautiful color though!

  32. Ann

I’m wearing Thames on my fingernails for first time. Love it!

  33. This, from what I can tell, looks EXACTLY like Wet N’ Wild’s Caribbean Frost, which is super cheap!
