Could You Taupe Me Off?

Burberry Taupe Brown (07) Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a rich grayed brown with a softened, cool-toned edge. I love the pay off of it, and the texture is soft and smooth as silk. It has a semi-matte, semi-satin kind of finish, so while it’s not without a smidgen of sheen, it’s not frosty in the least bit. By its nature, it is a rather neutral shade, but it will pair well with so many colors from neutral to blues to greens to pinks. This kind of shade–particularly with its semi-matte finish–makes an excellent contouring shade, too, to really carve out the crease and emphasize eyes.

It’s a pricey pick, of course, as it is a designer brand. The packaging is as luxe as one would expect from Burberry with a hefty, gunmetal-metallic case with the check pattern and a matching velvet pouch. Each shadow comes with a decent amount of product, though, which should last you quite awhile. As with any higher-end/luxury brand, worth is very much determined by the purchaser and the products they like or what they’re looking for.

This is really lovely and I would love to have it but I’ll probably look for a cheaper dupe. It is a really nice shade though.

  2. baby in a corner says:

amazing! i love taupes, they suit cool toned blue eyes sooo well! If anyone with this colouring hasn’t tried them you don’t know what you are missing! this looks lovely, it has a violet edge to it on my computer screen dunno if thats just in the photo, either way, YUM!

  3. Alexis says:

At first, I was dissmissive. I thought, “oh great another designer thinking they can go right into cosmetic” but then I thought how much I love Chanel and Dior colors. Shoot, even Armani and D&G cosmetics are starting to make my curious. Burberry has been getting lots of play on other blogs – I may have to shut my mouth walk to Nordstrom and swatch this in person.

    • Christine says:

I was skeptical, too — just like with Dolce & Gabbana — because they’re new on the block, and why do cosmetics at all? Both brands have done it well (IMO!), and it’s definitely worth checking out if your Nordstrom carries the line.

      • Alexis says:

I will! I think the Nordstrom at the SF Center carries it. I should really check it out next time I’m there. I have yet to try a dolce & gabbana lipstick. I really want to – their colors look fabulous. I’m just concerned with moisture since I have super sensitive lips and all!

  4. Sherri says:

I’m a sucker for taupe but I’ll have to find a cheaper alternative. Do you know of a dupe for this?

  5. Deb says:

Gorgeous color and finish! I tend to be really heavy-handed with colors like this, and they never look quite right on me, but this makes me want to give dark neutrals another try. Just maybe not at the Burberry price.

  6. Vijaya says:

I was looking at that swatch’s subtitle thinking, “What? There’s only two there.” THEN I saw it; trench was hiding.

Does this have a similar texture to a Chanel shadow?

  7. LNU says:

Whoa not a fan of this color!

  8. S says:

How do you compare this with Chanel Taupe Gris? Thanks!

  9. Trisha says:

    It’s a nice color, but I don’t know if I’d ever use it. It’s just so…grey.

  10. lauraaaaaaaa says:

it’s nice, but not $27 nice

  11. maaike says:
