Bright Makeup: So Blue, So, So, Blue!
I thought about doing a mix of blue and some other color (was leaning towards purple), but then I thought, “It’s been awhile since I’ve done *all* blue, hasn’t it?” and then this was created. The blues I used almost look like they’re glowing in the close-up photos, which is kind of cool!
Don’t be afraid of color — try it at home! If you don’t love it, you can always wash it off. Also a must? Make funny faces in the mirror if you’re not comfortable with wearing those bright colors. It should be fun, so have fun!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Clear Sky Blue Pigment (PRO) (matte sky blue as a base), MAC Sky Blue Eyeshadow (PRO) (sky blue), MAC Winkle Eyeshadow (matte powder blue), MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow (matte bright blue), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (brightened dark blue), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), Milani Liquif’Eye Silver Eyeliner (silver), MAC Blue Herizon Liquidlast Liner (blue), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Setting Powder
- Cheeks: MAC Prim & Proper Blush (pink-nude)
- Lips: MAC Peachstock Lipstick (peach-nude), MAC Frankly Fresh Lipglass (peach-nude)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom; Prim & Proper = Tenderling; Frankly Fresh = C-Thru
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Clear Sky Blue pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Sky Blue eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Winkle eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Electric Eel eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. With the 219, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease, and then use the 226 to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Deviant eyeliner on the outer lower lash line with Silver eyeliner on the inner lash line, then Atlantic Blue eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. On the upper lash line, apply Blue Herizon liquidlast liner and smudge with Atlantic Blue eyeshadow and the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.
For cheeks, apply Prim & Proper blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Peachstock lipstick first, and then layer Frankly Fresh lipglass for a complementing lip.

This is SO pretty! It's bright without being overpowering. Great combo with the more neutral lip and cheeks! I always feel like I can't wear such pretty blues like this because of my coloring and blue eyes...on you it is so fabulous! Bravo! I'm jealous ;)
This looks stunning on you! I love that lip combo on you. I would never have the balls to wear this, but you make it look tempting.
Wow that;s blue! Really pretty , what are the colors you used? is it already mentioned somewhere and I cant see ,LOL?
Forever my favorite look from you Christine. This is beyond amazing. I am writing everything down and will buy everything from this look. It's like...neon!
Wow! I thought this would lookSilly until I saw the whole look! It looks so good on you! You rock that! Lucky thing. I hope you wear that out cos you pull it off better than anyone I've ever seen! Take that Paula! (and I am a big beautypedia fan!)
That swimming pool blue is perfect with the color of your eyes the blue/peach combo is particularly beautiful with your warm skin tone. Well done, mademoiselle! It's so full of summer already. I don't think I could wear this make up with cool toned and fair skin! Yet I still love it. Do you think a NW15 (considering that NW is still too yellow for me) could wear a peach lipstick? Oh and I see that your hair is starting to have a seriously good length! It's so long to have it long but it's worthy. :)
Thank you!! :) I think you could, really! You might find that if you pair it with cooler eyeshadows or blushes that it works :)
Everyone's always so afraid of blue, but this looks so amazing! You got it absolutely right. Somehow, I think brunettes may be able to pull them off more. I love blues, but every time I wear them I look a bit...disco (I'm blonde). But I wear them anyway! And Peachstock, love! I'm a new convert and I wonder where it's been all my life?
Wow. This is gorgeous! I think I'm going to visit my closest MAC counter to get Peachstock and Frankly Fresh. They're the most gorgeous lip colors I've seen in a while!
Wow, this is hot. I love how it looks on you! Awesome~! What do you think about trying this look with blue eyes? You think it will look wrong? I am very light skinned with blue eyes and blonde hair. You think this look will work for me?
Thank you, Hilana! I think it could :) You know how there are certain looks that are more flattering than others, but it's not that you look bad in something else? I think you would look good in blues, but maybe not as good as greens or browns, you know? Which basically means try it & see!
Oh, I love this! It really makes your eye colour pop. You've inspired me to get out my blue eyeshadows and do some experimenting! I got Atlantic Blue recently, so this gives me some ideas for colour pairings. Love Winkle eyeshadow - might have to check that one out!
Simply gorgeous! I love vivid eye colour (then again, being a makeup artist, I would, wouldn't I?) I agree that we should all experiment and have fun with bright colour in makeup! But if you feel that you cannot quite pull it off, try a small hint of vivid colour teamed up with neutrals at first. The most important thing is that you have fun and feel comfortable with doing so! Thanks for the post and for encouraging others to have fun with makeup!
Thanks, Cassandra Rae! ;) There are some makeup artists who don't like vivid color, actually - I've met a few who found brighter/vivid color garish or clownish.
This look looks awesome on you! Peachstock is my all-time favorite "nude" lipstick for me (and my skin tone), and I just love how the complete look glows on you! Gorgeous. Now I need to find myself a Sky Blue, and buy Atlantic Blue - I want to recreate it! :) Have a super day, C.!
This looks exceptional, and the lip colour goes fantastically well with the blues. I always love your looks, especially this one.
Aw Christine you look stunning!! I love this look on you, it makes your face radiate! Love love blues!! I'm blonde though and sometimes I think it can look a bit too much on blondes compared to brunettes...or maybe I'm just wrong, lol I often think it suits dark hair better.
Thanks, Emm! :) It could be or maybe you're just not used to seeing it on you & it's like, "WHOA!" since it is pretty potent!
First green and then blue. You are on a roll with colors. I love how you kept the lips and cheeks complimentary to the eyes. Gorgeous look.
