Bobbi Brown Turquoise Nail Lacquer
Bobbi Brown Turquoise Nail Lacquer

What IS the Color of Turquoise?

Bobbi Brown Turquoise Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.37 fl. oz.) is described as a “flat vibrant turquoise.” It’s a little bluer than what I think of when I hear “turquoise,” but it’s not a true blue–definitely a blue-teal. (Even if you google “turquoise,” you’ll see it varies quite a bit from green to blue.) It has a cream finish. Estee Lauder Teal Topaz is lighter, less blue. Illamasqua Muse is darker, bluer. Orly Viridian Vinyl is a smidgen less blue. Butter London Artful Dodger is similar as well, though it, too, is less blue.

This is the second shade of polish that I’ve seen by Bobbi Brown for as long as I’ve been following the brand (about five years).  The formula on Turquoise was better than Twilight, as this wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it flowed easily across the nail without pooling along the sides.  It is very, very close to being fully opaque after two coats, but there is a faint shadow where the nail line is.  We’re talking like 95% opaque!  It doesn’t take too long to dry, and when it dries, there is still a naturally shiny finish.  I can’t test every polish shade for a full 7-days (can you imagine; that would be, at most, only 52 shades a year, and I swear, there are about 100 or more released each season!), I do test at least a few shades from each brand with varying finishes and lightness/darkness as well as re-test brands for consistency throughout the year.  Turquoise lasted a full week with no chipping and had minor tip wear.  I should warn you, however, that very few products chip on me at all.

It's a pretty color, and it has just enough brightness to keep it from looking dull, but it's not so bright that it's neon or loud. It's so close to being opaque that it's hard to notice that it's not (except if you're looking, like me!).

  1. I keep seeing this nail enamel on Saks and wondering..hmmm.. now I see it on nails, I’ll leave it. It’s pretty, but doesn’t have any special qualities that make me want to reach for it.

  2. Yeah… you might have to start testing more then 3 shades on both hands soon. lol

    • I only test one color and only on my right hand (so I can use the left for swatching) – I have to do two fingers with base/top coat and three without!

  3. Gorgeous blue color! Absolutely everything chips on me in a few days tops. Any idea why nothing chips for you?

    • I have no idea. I don’t even baby my nails at all – I will pry things open with my nails/fingers, scratch stuff off, etc.

    • Nicoco Chanel

Ugh I have the same problem. Everyone wonders why I change my polish so frequently – usually because it’s chipped so badly I can’t continue to wear it!

Though, weirdly, Nubar holos wear really well on me and they’re the only ones I don’t top or base coat. Maybe that’s the solution!

  4. I love this particular shade of Turquoise. Gorgeous.

  5. Dominique

Not for me, I have Dior Saint-Tropez and Nars Koliary among many blue polishes, Bobbi Brown seems dull to me, I don’t know why.

  6. This one is lovely, but not special enough, in my opinion, to warrant the extra money! I’m VERY picky when it comes to paying high-end prices for polishes

  7. Favorite shade of torquoise ever <3

  8. artemis

    so pretty!

  9. Sasha

This looks like a medium (sky) blue more than turquoise to me. I already have RBL’s Faraway and I think I prefer the lighter blue with a bit more depth than this darker one.

I saw the BB email asking me to “Fall for something different”- but I don’t think Bobbi Brown has ever done anything “different”, not to say they don’t produce quality products worth coveting but …Nah. For $18 BB is offering me less product then NARS in a far more dupeable shade with a glaringly plain name. No, Bobbi, you have nothing Different for me, especially at that price point.

  11. Lovely color but it’s not that unique in my opinion. Whatever happened to the name? I think it deserves a more creative one :)

  12. Whatever color it is (blue, turquoise,…) I like it a lot. I have too many nail polishes with shimmer already. This one would be nice to add to my “just shiny” collection :-)

  13. Not a very original colour, still very pretty and perfect for summer.
