Barielle Style in Argyle Collection
Barielle Nail Lacquer: Cashmere or Loose Me, Tight Knit, Cowl of the Wild

Barielle Goes Brown for Fall

For fall, Barielle’s Style in Argyle Collection is quite literally autumnal in tone. It’s a myriad of shades you’d see in fallen leaves. It includes six new shades: Cashmere or Loose Me (soft brown with copper pearl), Tight Knit (purple brown creme), Cowl of the Wild (mushroom taupe creme), Aura Angora (royal gold creme), Wool You Marry Me? (plum brown creme), and Unraveled Rust (burnt rust creme). All but Cashmere or Loose Me (soft brown with copper pearl) are creams. Each retails for $8.

  • Cashmere or Loose Me is a warmed-up red-toned medium brown with a soft sprinkle of pale gold shimmer. The shimmer is very subtle in the creamier base. Two coats.
  • Tight Knit is a rich, plum-tinged brown cream. You barely need two coats, because one coat is so rich, but I did two.
  • Cowl of the Wild is a medium-dark chocolate brown with a little taupe cream. Two coats.
  • Aura Angora is a yellow, mustard-y cream. Two coats. It’s darker and more orange-based than Butter London’s Bumster.
  • Wool You Marry Me? is a deep burgundied brown cream. This one was my favorite, because it looks very decadent in color. Two coats. This one reminded me a bit of Essie’s Sexy Divide.
  • Unraveled Rust is a rich, almost molten dark chocolate brown cream. Two coats.

Barielle’s formula is on the thicker side, though it applies very evenly and never streaks. I found all shades except Cashmere or Loose Me to be nearly opaque in one coat. I ended up using two coats for all colors, but the creams are quite pigmented. These felt like they took longer to dry than the average polish, and I think that might be due to the thickness of the polish itself.

Honestly, I don’t own many brown polishes for whatever reason, so I don’t have a full range of shades to pull from for dupes. Given that Essie does a lot of creams, you may want to look there first (assuming you have a large Essie stash, of course).

These are colors you may love or hate, and they’re not your typical shades, regardless of the coordination with the season. I’m kind of digging Aura Angora and like Wool You Marry Me? the best, but none of these shades are must-haves based on my color preferences.

Any of these shades catch your eye?

RECOMMENDATION: The formula is a little thick and takes a bit longer to dry, but the creams are incredibly pigmented and apply beautifully.

  1. You can’t tell the difference between the 1st three in bottle but on nails you can definitely see it. Very nice collection :)

  2. I don’t know why, but I love Aura Angora. It’s the only one that popped out to me. I’m cool toned so I’m not sure it’d look good on me =/

  3. aradhana

i love these colours…i’ve been eyeing them for a while after seeing them on lipglossiping but trying to hold off…

  4. The one that’s really calling my name is Aura Angora. Such a stunning little thing! I just have to figure out a way to justify 15.00 Euro for a nail polish. I’ve done it before with OPI and Essie polishes which cost about the same here in Germany in-store. Christine, how does Barielle compare to OPI?

    • Barielle’s formula is on the thicker side, so you’ll need patience to wait for it to dry, but otherwise it wears without chipping for me!

      • No chipping? Now it seems I *have* to give Barielle a go. At the moment I can’t wear polish longer than 2 days because it chips, no matter which brand I wear. Thanks Christine!!

        • Just to note, though – none of the major brands chip on me – I can’t even think of a brand that does. I always use Zoya’s Color Lock System (base/top/drying coats), too.

  5. I don’t really like brown shades very much unless they have some mauve in them. I’m more for summery colors :)

  6. stine

i really like most of them, but i think aura angora looks curry yellow… and that is really not a good color for most ppl in my opinion

  7. Lauren

When I saw the word ‘argyle’ I was super excited because I’m a sucker for anything argyle… good thing there is no pattern on the bottle, because I am not loving these colors at all!

    • Alannah

I expected something totally different from the collection with that name too (and definitely some cute packaging/labels, but I guess not!). I still like most of the shades, but I don’t think that name fits the collection!

  8. Isabelle

These actually look very beautiful, very office friendly and even look like dupes for the new Chanel Khakis collection, no?

  9. Jadis4742

Wool You Marry Me is my favorite, but I’m sure I’ve got something close to it already. Good for my wallet…there’s been way too many awesome polishes lately.

  10. Stephanie

are any of the browns close dupes for Chanel’s Khaki rose or Khaki brun? They look close, but I can’t tell for sure~

  11. Cheyenne *DemureAllure*

:) All of these catch my eye. They are all great fall colors.

I had a question about nail polish in general. I have the bubble problem. I’ve done the research and I roll the bottle between my palms, I let the first coat dry before I apply the other, but I STILL get bubbles. What am I doing wrong?? :( ALL my nail polishes bubble. They are so pretty until they do.

  12. Margie

    Tight Knit looks absolutely gorgeous!

  13. Eileen

I love all of these shades!! I’m crazy about any brownish creme nailpolish and this mustard one makes a nice change.

  14. Yumi

Not much of a nail polish fanatic (I wish I could get my nails to look as good as yours!) but I think the names are cute. And I’m not usually one for puns!

  15. noty

besides the banana yellow, they’re all old lady colors…pass

  16. those are GORGEOUS!!!

  17. amy

Aura Angora is my favourite out of the ones you have shown because I think that is the most unique.

  18. I’m an avid knitter, so I might need to get some of these on namesake alone =)

  19. Rebecca

Just received the whole collection in the mail. At buy 2 get 1 free and a 20% off code I got all six for $32.00 including shipping! Couldn’t pass it up. Such pretty colors! I love the shimmer in Cashmere or Loose Me.

  20. Vane

I bought aura angora today and I love the mustard color it’s so pretty

  21. ak

You can tell from the names of the polishes that they’really trying to copy OPI aren’t they? All of the colors are very pretty and they remind me a bit of the Khaki de Chanel ones that came out.

  22. Linnea

Loving Cowl of the Wild.. Wonder if its similar to Little Brown Dress by Essie? I can’t seem to find it in stores around here :)

  23. Mor

I actually *love* Cashmere or Loose Me. I might have to get it next month, when I recover from this month’s cosmetics shopping extravaganza XD. Luckily, the price is on the sane side for me… (I just bought two NARS polishes for $16 each, and I love Chanel’s polishes… So comparing to those it’s a cheapie! :P).

  24. I just found out about this set. I am a brown fanatic and have found 5 of the 6 from this collection. I am missing Tight Knit- feel like swapping with me? I have checked Ulta, amazon, eBay, Barielle and can’t find this last one! Do you have any other ideas? I left my email I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know!
