Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals The Elements Eyeshadow Quad

Coming in October, Bare Escentuals The Elements Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.17 oz.) will debut, and it features four shades: Air, Fire, Earth, and Water. Bare Escentuals’ pressed eyeshadow formula contains SeaNutritive Mineral Complex that gives the shadow a “creamy, silky smooth” texture with “seamless blendability” and “stay-true color.” It’s supposed to be long-wearing whether worn alone or with primer–you shouldn’t see any creasing or fading. I’ve tested various combinations of shades from the duos and quads, and I’ve happily achieved ten hours of solid wear without a primer underneath. For a review of the packaging, please read my original review.

Air is a grayish beige with a frosted finish. The color is very similar to Urban Decay Ruthless. Air has good color payoff and a really soft, smooth texture that’s dense and buttery.

Fire is a burnt orange with a satiny sheen. The color is much browner compared to MAC Rule, though it’s the closest shade I could think of. I was surprisd by how smooth and pigmented Fire was, because it almost has a matte-like finish so I was expecting a drier texture. Instead, it’s very workable and blendable.

Earth is a gray-tinted green with a pearly sheen. It has more of a sheen than Fire but not as much as a traditional frost does. I love the uniqueness of this color, but the texture is on the drier side so the color payoff is uneven in places and not as dense as I would like. It seems like what MAC Evil Eye should have been, though Earth is lighter.

Water is muted navy blue with an edging of teal. The finish has a lot of sheen to it but less shimmer. It’s bluer and less silvery compared to theBalm Sensational. I think MAC Bold Babe is closer, but it’s a lot less blue. Water had a really soft, silky texture and applied easily onto the lid.

Where to Buy: October 2011 at Bare Escentuals, Sephora, $30

The Glossover

A-

It's a cooler-toned quad with plenty of color, but it's done in a way that just seems sophisticated to me. I think it's the muted (without being drab) quality of each color -- you have burnt orange, rather than neon orange; subdued navy blue rather than pure blue.

Just bought this yesterday and love the quality so far. The colors really show well! I used them with NYX HD primer. You can definitely build up or play down these colors to get the look you want. Very well pigmented! I got this from Ulta (I'm in Maryland) so ladies who want to try this might want to stop by there. Blendability was very nice! I loved the colors, especially earth. It is an unusual green-grey, almost like the color of paper currency but slightly lighter. I didn't have a problem with the texture. This is a great color for those with brown eyes and a little brown eyeliner would make this one pop. Overall, wonderful palette..very sophisticated!

Yay!! So glad you like it!

Would these color combinations work on someone with yellow/olive undertones?

Love this one! I like the finishes, but I love that all 4 are not neutrals. Very cool. I really like the orange.

so beautiful! bare minerals/essentials is one of my favorites, and I'm wondering why they didn't make pressed eyeshadows sooner! so so so gorgeous! I feel like restocking my collection with only this brand

This quad is gorgeous. I love the themes!

I can't wait for these to come out!!!! I think these colors work with each other... Fire looks like a great crease color to bring some warmth.

the eye shadows look cool but I dont like this brand... I tried some of their face product but they dont work for me....

This is a really interesting quad.

The colors very much remind me of M.A.C.'s Colorizations-- the orange ("Fire") and the blueish-greenish-jadeish ("Water") paired together seems slightly reminiscent of Double Feature 4, while "Air" reminds me somewhat of a combination between the two colors in Double Feature 6. All together, I'm totally into these colors! I especially love the shades in "Earth", although I'm a bit disappointed that the application doesn't sound too good.

I am very intrigued by this color combination, it has potential to create some very fun looks, from just a pop of color, to a very bold look.....now I wanna go try a orange/blue eyeshadow look and go to the beach!

the colors seem so strange to me. doesn't look like something most people would buy, but it could work for the right person

this is very work friendly to me. I am excited for this one

Love. LOVE. L. O. V. E. WANT. NEEEED. I think it'd work great with warmer skin too.

Like the fact there are mattes here - but the orange and the blue are shades I would not be able to wear. Again very let down at what I am seeing in the duos and quads from BE - going to be nothing that I want in combos except some boring basic neutral browns in a duo.

I only like Earth and Water, so this is a no-go for me, unfortunately.

I would have gotten it if Earth was a bit more brown and less grey myself.

Haha, now it's making me think of my favorite cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender, where they controlled the elements. It's an interesting quad.

Of course, how could I forget the classics? :o

Hahah, you're right :L It reminded me of Legend of Zelda, and a weird Final Fantasy game that were originally for Nintendo DS Lite my friend and I played on her Wii that I loved. :3

that's so what I was thinking!
