Welcome to the MAC Spring Colour Forecast Hour!
Make sure you keep the official collection information bookmarked, because Spring Colour Forecast is a doozy. With four “parts,” this collection is positively enormous–though not surprising as it anniversarizes last year’s mega-popular Hello Kitty collection. It is now currently available for purchase at www.maccosmetics.com.
Just trying to determine the best way to organize this collection’s review has been a nightmare (each collection has too many photos to put into a single post to do it the most obvious way, with each part getting a post). Instead, I’ve decided to group similar products together–all the single eyeshadows together, all of the single lipglasses together, etc.
So, stay with me as I review and post swatches and photos over the next hour… or two… or ten :)

2009 Readers’ Choice Awards — Results — Part 1
The results are in! It’s been a really incredible time compiling nominees and then watching the votes come in. We had some close races in a few categories, with the difference being as little as one (or even tied!) at times. It’s always fun to see how those turn out, because you never really know until the very last vote comes in–plus, it really shows that every vote counts and may be the one that turns the tide.
Did your favorites win? Were you surprised by any of the winners?
Best Beauty Brand of the Year: MAC Cosmetics
With a crushing 49.0% of the vote, MAC Cosmetics picks up Best Beauty Brand of the Year. This marks MAC as a three-time winner in this category. Urban Decay (9.9%) and Make Up For Ever (7.6%) were the second and third, respectively, but it was clear MAC was, again, going to win this category by a landslide.
Best New Product of 2009: Sigma Brushes
Sigma Brushes really caught your attention this year and 14.4% of you found them the best new product of 2009. With 11.8% of votes, Chanel Rouge Allure Laques just barely edged out Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. II (11.4%) to come in second and third, respectively.
Most Surprisingly Amazing Product of 2009: Sigma Brushes
Sigma Brushes (15.6%) really caught a lot of you by surprise this year — but in a good way. I’m definitely going to try to give them a test during the new year, since so many of you seemed to enjoy it. MAC’s Style Black Mineralized Eyeshadows (10%) were another surprise favorite, along with Chanel Rouge Allure Laque (9.3%) and MAC Perfect Topping Mineralize Skinfinish (7.9%).
Most Disappointing Product of 2009: MAC Tri-colour Lipglass
Limited edition in nature, but still one of the bigger disappointments of the year, were MAC’s Sugarsweet Tri-colour Lipglasses — 16.9% thought so, at least. Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto (14.5%) was another product that missed the mark, with CoverGirl’s LashBlast Length Mascara (9.4%) not working out so well either.

MAC Baroque Boudoir Collection: Lipsticks
Every year, MAC presents us with a very limited edition, small-sized collection that’s decked out in more luxe packaging accompanied by equally more luxe prices. This year’s collection is Baroque Boudoir, which is in matte silver with shiny silver and black filigree overlay. This year’s collection contains a whopping nine items to covet: three lipsticks, three lipglosses, two shades of Sheer Mystery Powder, and a clutch.
The lipsticks are creamy, contain no shimmer, tend to be a little more pigmented, and apply more opaquely on lips, though this year’s are less pigmented than some of the previous years’ launches. Like the Lipglosses, I felt like these shades weren’t particularly special or standout. I’m am surprised, yet again, to not see a really excellent holiday red launched. And again, the price on these? Really obscene. They’re definitely not better than MAC’s lipsticks at $14 a pop; you could say these are, perhaps, a little more moisturizing, but not any more so than MAC’s Amplified Creme finish.
P.S. – I will do lip swatches this afternoon!
Baroque Boudoir Lipstick ($22.00 U.S. / $26.00 CDN)
- Prive is a blue-based medium pink with a light sheen. It’s creamy, and it goes on so-so, not totally opaque, but still adds plenty of color to my lips. It reminded me of a more subtle Speed Dial Lipstick.
- Baroque Boudoir is a plummy brown with a light sheen. It’s semi-opaque (you can kind of tell in the swatch) both on the skin and on the lips. I think it’s similar to Spice It Up! (a little redder) or Sheer Plum (a little browner) Lipstick.
- Treasured is a creamy, semi-opaque neutral beige. MAC says it’s warm, it seemed neutral on me. It really didn’t jump out at me as warm (I almost wanted to say it was cool!). It reminded me of Jubilee! or even a more pigmented Fresh Brew Lipstick.
Let me also give you a quick run-down of the Sheer Mystery Powder, which I chose not to spend solely for the sake of photographing it. My bottom line is I don’t think it’s a particularly good pressed powder, and therefore not even close to being worth the $60 price tag attached to it. The compact is very similar to the Hello Kitty Kouture compacts, just with different embellishments. It’s also similar to Monogram’s from last year. It has some heft to it, but it’s not too heavy (unlike Couture and Stylistic’s compacts).
Sheer Mystery Powder is an extremely lightweight pressed powder. I find it a little too dusty and chalky to really enjoy it, and the shade range is incredibly limited. As NC30, I felt too dark for Light Medium and yet too light for Medium Plus. If you love the packaging, there’s no shame in purchasing it for the compact alone! If it makes you happy, it makes me happy! (Please note, the rating below is only for the lipsticks. For the compact, I’d give it an overall score of C for an average product housed in an overpriced compact.)

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ! :)
- Product: 28/30
- Value: 6/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 5/5

Recommendation: Like the Lipglosses, if you’re a big fan of the packaging, you might find it’s worth picking up one or two!

Fashion Patch Mineralize Eyeshadow
MAC Cosmetics Colour Craft Collection Review – Part 1
OVERALL, the mineralize eyeshadow quads seem to have smoother, softer textures with more pigmented shades compared to previous mineralize eyeshdaow releases. Every year, mineralize collections sucker me in, even though I’ve never been a huge fan of the product line-up (particularly eyeshadows). This year is no different — lots of shades and combinations to choose from, with many wearable shades. There’s no instant-grab-your-attention-color like Sea & Sky, but the majority of the mineralize eyeshadows seem perfect for summer-wear.

Swatches
The lipglasses were far more pigmented than spring’s Sugarsweet lipglasses were, though they’re not ultra opaque glosses either–just in case you thought they were. They’re semi-sheer glosses with some running sheerer and others feeling more opaque. The texture is similar to Sugarsweet lipglasses, which was semi-thin and not as sticky as traditional lipglass. I will never understand the increased prices on these, as regular lipglass is $14.00 for 0.17 oz. while these are $18.00 for 0.16 oz. The packaging holds fingerprints, it’s sharp, and the marbelized effect is a novelty (it doesn’t feel like it’s very functional). The lipsticks offered a good range of shades, and there are a few shades we haven’t seen before/not often, and that is always a welcome addition!
P.S. – This review is broken up into two parts, just because there is SO much to read and digest. I don’t want to get a bunch of tl;dr comments ;) The blushes/skinfinishes and brushes are up next!

Four Easy Makeup Looks Using MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow
Match it with hot pinks for a bold and bright look that’s a little bit over the top, but totally fun!
With greens and blues for a truly fun combination that’s perfect for spring! (One of my all-time favorite looks!)
For springy pastels, Stars ‘n Rockets has the best mix of iridescence and color to brighten up any look.
On the lash line to complete any purple-themed eyeshadow combination. Plus, it has a good level of shimmer and brightness that it just might open up your peepers, too. Double-duty, hello!
What do you like to wear Stars ‘n Rockets with?
