I liked Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, and Evan Rachael Wood’s dresses the best
I was SO disappointed in some of the makeup artists this year. Claire, Kate and Charlize, especially…poor Charlize, I don’t know if her MUA was going for ethereal or something, but the girl looks like a corpse. And Kate’s foundation..
*sigh*
But my favorites were probably Salma Hayek, Stacey Keibler, Reese Witherspoon and Naya Rivera. All very put together, very healthy-looking..varying degrees of makeup (fresh/natural/sultry/old hollywood) but they all looked great.
Although the fact that Naya’s face is two shades lighter than her body is kind of annoying…but overall she looks flawless
I was amazed by the bad makeup until I noticed that the badness was universal, then it hit me: bad lighting. When Salma Hayek looks that bleached out, it’s got to be the lighting. None of those women are flawless in real life and a makeup brush is not a magic wand, but they aren’t crones, either. Mila Kunis looked 40 and I saw bags under Chalize Theron’s eyes. You can hide a good bit if the lighting is with you, but you can’t fix bad lighting. Test shots, guys. Next year, pick your photo spot and then do test shots. Angelina Jolie will thank you.
I definitely agree! I was debating on recalibrating my monitor cause everyone looked so lifeless and grey but then I realised that it was probably just bad lighting.
Kathy – I agree. That’s the first thing I noticed; one particular camera from these pictures is the worst offender. I think there’s also the aspect of just how clear all of the offending pictures are. Some of the shots are so sharp, you can see every single pore, wrinkle, and facial hair that makeup cannot cover (you can’t hide textures.) Maybe that camera is better for nature shots, but for an awards ceremony maybe there should be a little less focus…
I too was shocked with all the bad makeup as well. I did notice that the lighting was wayyy to harsh as well. To me it seems that all the makeup artist got together for a meeting for 2 minutes and said alright guys lets keep it really boring. Use barely any eyeshadow, but make sure you use alot of black eyeliner. Make em all look dead pale is the new fashion lmao!!! Seriously some of the worst makeup i’ve seen. Some of the red carpet tutorial video’s i’ve saw looks more “red carpet worthy” than the celebs this time around. Maybe the lighting makes it look worse, but in my honest opinion the makeup sucked, and when they got under the lights it made it look even worse!
A Jolie’s dress is a standout – shame about the skeleton wearing it. I loved Emma Stone’s look and Katherine Argon’s dress is amazing. Some really great fashions this year. Sofia Vergara really knows how to work her curves! Also liked: Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman and Kate Winslet. I have to wonder if Kelly Osborne and Jessica Biel got dressed in the dark with no mirrors though!
I’m torn between Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron.
Angelina Jolie is a goddess.
Diana Agron’s look for this year’s Golden Globe is as stunning as last year’s. And that’s coming from someone who cares little enough about celebrities not to know who she was until her 2011 Golden Globe look caught my eye last year. XD;
Wow, Angelina Jolie and Dianna Agron are both great in that white/red dress combination. Thank you for posting these!
I was surprised how different my perception of someone’s makeup is between the up close vs. faraway photos.
Also, I would give my left kidney to have Evan Rachel Woods’ flawless skin. And wow, lots of nude lipstick this year!
My favorites are:Salma Hayek,Jessica Alba and Sophia Vergara
I was intrigued by Dianna Agron dress and know how hard structurally it is to do something like this. It would have been elegant if only the incorporated the design into the strap instead off cheapening the effect with a skater/stage performance trick with flesh tone wide straps and ugly seams. I’m sad because they should have gone for elegance over trying too hard to stay to the design on paper.
Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, Zooey Deschanel and Evan Rachel Wood <3
Loved Evan Rachel Wood’s dress probably the most, Mirelle Enos’s lipstick, and Nicole Kidman overall (she’s smiling!!! and her hair is down!!). Also, check out all the pale chicks! Rockin’ the creamy skin and kicking the fake tans/orange coloring to the curb. It actually made me pay attention and look at these photos this year instead of skipping over them like usual.
Dianna Agron’s make-up upclose was stunning! I think her dress would’ve been nicer with the intricate lacy pattern up to the waistline and the rest being a solid red column. Loved Emma Stone’s attire, but didn’t love the eye make-up look. Kate Beckinsale can do no wrong in my eyes. Loved Octavia Spencer’s lilac gown! SO stunning on her!! Rooney Mara is a red-carpet goddess and she may be my new favorite actress. Stacy Keibler was a classic beauty. I also adored Zooey
Okay I stink at favorites…
I just love Emma Stone’s make up! It’s so mysterious somehow
Emma’s makeup is AMAZING. Her eyes are beautiful as it is, but her makeup brings out her best features.
I agree with what some people said about the lighting on the red carpet. The makeup doesn’t look so great in this lighting, but at the actual awards they looked much better. Kate’s look on the red carpet makes her look like a corpse, but I commented on how gorgeous she looked on stage. Her blush was such a pretty orangey color and she looked quite radiant. Shame that the lighting on the red carpet was so bad!
Dianna Agron!!!!!
Sincerely? I think Piper Perabo looked the best…her dress was not spectacular…but her smile! She looked happy and super natural.
As someone who sews, it’s interesting to me to see the close up details of Diana Agron’s dress with that nude stretch fabric behind it (much like one sees on a lot of skating costumes). Having looked at most of these photos yesterday, it also confirms to me too that most women just don’t look their best in all “beige/golden” makeup. For the most part, IMO, the women who look the best are those with a bit of colour on their lips!
Rooney Mara’s makeup was perfection! And her bone structure is so amazing.
Christine, why did you miss Madonna? She looked lovely yesterday:)
I didn’t have her photos – sorry – I don’t get photos for everyone! I also took requests and had no requests for her, so I did not spend time trying to hunt down better ones.
Thanks for answer me:). I love your blog:). Greetings from Venice
I wasn’t too wowed by most of the looks this year. I know they have teams of stylists, yet it seemed lot a lot of the hair and makeup looked sloppy :/ Maybe that is the look they were going for. I think Natalie Portman’s makeup was fresh and beautiful.
Zooey Deschanel and Emma Stone. Angelina Jolie and Madonna need to stop working out their arms or pick up a hamburger on the way home.
maria menunos
Am I the only one who didn’t find Angelina Jolie’s dress stunning? Nor Charlize Theron? I thought Angelina’s wasn’t eye popping and Charlize looked more costume like, but I liked the top half of her dress but not so much the bottom half. I think they are beautys, but those dresses aren’t some I like. I loved Emma Stone’s and Jessica Alba’s <3
Love how a lot of the makeup artists used products that are so accessible and affordable so others can achieve the same look. Loving that the bold red lips!
why Madonna is not in this list????
I didn’t have photos for her, sorry!
not a fan of all the fishtail dresses this year. and the nude lips were kind of boring. dianna agron and angelina jolie looked best imo!
I really liked the Glee girls! Lea and Naya never dissapoint.
Diana was ok to, but I wasn´t a fan of her dress. One that I really didn´t like was Sarah Michelle Gellar. I really hate the dress.
Some of them also looked so pale! I really felt like they could use a vacation to a sunny resort. Got the shivers just looking at them.
Was it just my tv, or did Jessica Alba look really ORANGE? I agree with the above statements on the bad makeup, her closeup looked ehhh with the too light lipstick and gray eyebrows.
do you think you could find out sarah hyland’s make up (from modern family)…her look was STUNNING!
Evan Rachel Wood’s dress was hands down my fave! A little peacock, a little “Black Swan”–LOVE IT!
Dianna Agron’s overall look is just amaaaazing. As far as makeup, I’m loving all the bold statement red lips (on Claire Danes, Angelina Jolie and Dianna Agron).
Also loving the overall makeup for Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman. Their eyes just seemed to pop, and rocking neutral looks.
Mila Kunis looks wonderful (as always!)
I think Zooey Deschanel needs some help. =\
Love Nicole Richie’s hair, but her dress looked like something from “Back To The Future”. Not digging that. Not sure what Jessica Biel was doing, and Kelly Osbourne, don’t rush being old… My favorite is Mila Kunis! Not much love for her here but she looked really great!
Btw, Natalie Portman, what was going on with that dress?? It looks like she was about to fly away on one side!
This lady–> https://twitter.com/#!/melaniemakeup is Lea Michele’s MUA maybe you should ask her for more info!!!
ps: there were too much over bronzed skin this year!!!
julianne moore is divine.
Thanks for the breakdowns for Kate Beckinsale, Julianne Moore, and Debra Messing! Gorgeous! Christine, I hope you get a breakdown for Angelina’s makeup — I loved the red lippie!
My favorite dresses were Claire Danes, Charlize Theron, and Angelina.
Thank you so much for posting this !
I already selected some products to focus on !
Emma stone is stunning and so elegant.
But, I really don’t know what to say about Heidi klum (Please tell me, what happened to her?),and Claire Danes looks 50 here.
Some other pictures are not very flattering as well :/
Late to the party but I LOVED the dresses of Dianna Agron, Lea Michele, Evan Rachel Wood, Claire Danes, Sofia Vergara and, of course, Angelina Jolie (I just wish she would gain a little weight, she´s way too skinny!!).
I loved the colours of Emma Stone´s dress but I wasn´t a fan of the cut.
i like Dianna Agron she loke so great
